Promotional products and gifts have been a staple for advertising many Perth businesses for more than thirty years. Recently, the Australian Promotional Products Association (APPA) decided to take a survey about their effectiveness involving people who are in the best position to judge: the people who are responsible for ordering and distributing promotional products for their businesses.
Suppliers of promotional products sent survey links to their customers. The customers could answer anonymously or provide email addresses for a chance to win an iPad. 237 decision-makers from organisations of various sizes provided data for the survey.
The Survey Results
Out of those who work for larger organisations which allocate a budget for promotional items, 56% said they plan to spend between $10,000 and $1 million on promotional products over the next twelve months. Large corporations spend the most, followed by Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s), with not for profit businesses in third place.
95% said that they expected to either spend the same on promotional products as last year or increase their expenditures. 75% said that their supplier of promotional products is proactive, creative and understands what their businesses need and provide high value for the money.
SME’s who have to watch their promotional dollar as if their lives depend upon it, provided positive feedback that was surprising even to those of us who have seen how well promotional products work. 87% said that promotional products allow them to more effectively connect with their customers. 87% also answered that promotional products enhance brand awareness.
81% agreed that promotional products help to improve brand loyalty, while 79% said they provide added value for those who attend activities and events.
Large corporations were just as happy. Over 75% allocate promotional product budgets, at an average of $43,000 per year. 90% use promotional products to enhance and promote brand awareness. 20-40% also use promotional products to reward and motivate their employees.
