Here’s how to keep sportswear, such as basketball and soccer jerseys clean while making them last longer.
Team jerseys can be expensive. As one of Perth’s foremost providers of sports apparel, we appreciate that you want your jersey tops to last as long as possible. Here are some tips on keeping your sportswear clean and attractive while helping it last longer.
Washing and Drying
In the washing and drying process, team jerseys can undergo a lot of wear. Washing and drying a jersey the wrong way can make numbers and team names wear away much faster than they should, thus lessening the life of the product or necessitating “repairs.”
First, read the “care label.” If the label says “cold water only,” it doesn’t mean “ignore it and put it in the washer on hot.” Follow the directions if you want to keep a fabric in good shape longer. This can also keep your jersey top from excessive shrinking.
If you get a stain like mustard or ketchup (we know you are sneaking off for a hot dog), make sure to pre-treat it before putting it in the washer. Also, the longer you let a jersey sit with stains, the more time the stain has to “set in” and the harder it is to remove.
The most important tip of all: turn your jersey inside out before you put it in the washer or dryer.
Always turn your jersey inside out. The washing process abrades the outside of your shirt; that is how it gets clean. Unfortunately, if you have numbers or any design on your shirt, they are worn away faster when the shirt is right side out. Protect your numbers, letters and logos by turning your top inside out before washing or drying.
When possible, air dry your jersey or use a lower temperature. Try not to dry it on high. The hotter your top gets, the faster it wears out.
